Health Advocacy is Urgent to Implement in Europe

Every minute a woman dies from the effects of complications in pregnancy or childbirth. More than 1 / 3 of all pregnancies are unwanted. Every year approximately 20 million unsafe abortions performed. It almost 78,000 women die and run hundreds of thousands of permanent injury.
The health of young women at risk because they marry at a young age and children. Complications in pregnancy is one of the leading causes of death for girls between 15 and 19 years. More than 40 million people are infected with HIV / AIDS. Half of these infections affects women and children. 3 million people die annually from AIDS and another 5 million people become infected. Most of these people live in developing countries.
Ten years ago, the rich countries promised at a conference in Cairo to help pay for a plan by 2015 to sexual and reproductive health and rights for everyone to realize. These governments are, almost without exception, their promise so far failed. The plan is feasible, practical and efficient. Countless lives could be saved. The only thing missing to plan effectively to carry out is money. Netherlands is one of the few countries to fulfill commitments of Cairo. The Dutch government has therefore called for the presidency of the EU to urge other European countries to their obligations.
