Dance and Expressive Arts Therapy is a psychotherapeutic process which both the client attaches to the body as well as to the creative processes that occur in therapy. Dance and movement are used to set the therapeutic process in motion to restructure it and develop until the end through. He is a medium for the diagnosis and the design of the therapeutic relationship. The dance serves as an access road to the unconscious and as a medium of awareness.
The observation of body language is particularly important if the client is not accessible through the verbal language, if the disturbance caused by a verbal or physical experience is or if he has to deal with inexpressible.
Man express not only its domestic situation by his body movements. In therapy, he learns to understand his characters through conscious movement and its interior have a positive influence on himself and his environment. Dance and Expressive Arts Therapy grew out of the social and cultural revolution of the early twentieth century and was first applied clinically in the U.S. in the forties. In Germany, established since more than twenty years of dance and expressive therapy in the therapeutic, preventive and rehabilitative health care.
