This year, the Buenos Aires Ministry of Health produced an edition of 5,000 copies of the Mental Health Act No. 448 of the City of Buenos Aires and its regulation.
The purpose of this new edition is to disseminate the law among health workers, residents of the city, and all those interested in the subject. As expressed in his preface: “The Ministry of Health is committed to the implementation of measures aimed at implementing this statute. We believe these actions will contribute to comprehensive care for patients and effective interaction of assistive devices. Among these actions to be undertaken in a participatory and democratic framework, promote interdisciplinary work, prevention, rapid and effective assistance, and rehabilitation and social inclusion of people affected by some form of mental illness. “

Once a person is assessed by the medical institution in the period of 24 hours, if determined to not need treatment, you go home. Conversely, if determined to remain hospitalized, is given to the person requesting an initial certification. This certification must be carried to the Court that issued the arrest warrant Temporary 24 hours to then apply this to issue a new order called the Order of Involuntary Admission to the person needing mental health services remain hospitalized for a period of up to 15 days . When necessary, may apply for extension of stay for no longer than the period of fifteen (15) additional days. This will require a second certification.

The person requesting to appear before the Court and fill out an official form called Petition for involuntary admission in which he requires the following information:
- A breakdown of the reasons that lead to assert that the person should be evaluated, including a description of the acts that form the basis for his claim, specifying the place and date of occurrence.
- The name of the nearest relative of the person to be evaluated. If you know this information, should express the efforts being made to try to get it.
- The implementation between the individual petitioner and the person to be evaluated. Additionally, should state whether it has any economic interest or litigation (whether civil, criminal or administrative) or any other nature with respect to the person to be evaluated.
- The name, address and telephone number of persons who can provide information that the requesting party unknown.
